While adding a home security service can boost your home’s safety, there are other things to keep in mind for ultimate safety. Any security service needs your help to decrease the odds of your home being the target for burglars. Simple measures can help increase your home’s security dramatically.
Empty residences are a prime target for thieves. So, when you plan on traveling make sure you take your precautionary measures. This means halting your newspaper service, because piles of newspapers on the doorstep are a clear indicator that no one is home. You also want to ask a friend or neighbor to pick up the mail occasionally. Leaving piles of mail in the mailbox is also sending an obvious message that no one is home.
Close your blinds carefully before leaving. Make sure you set your TVs, radios and other electronics on timers. This will give the impression that someone is home, even when you’re away on vacation.
Burglars look for easy ways to escape, so high fences can be a real way to deter burglars. Avoid large bushes around the home; this is a great hiding place for burglars. Trim bushes regularly and make sure they do not cover any windows. Also think about replacing comfy bushes with other thorny trellises around your property.
Even if you think you’ll only be gone for a few minutes, lock all doors and windows. What easier way for a thief to come into your home than through an open door or window? If you have any weak doors and windows, get them fixed. If you have a garden shed make sure it is tightly locked. You don’t want to make stealing your house easy with tools found inside such sheds!
If you have expensive items don’t flaunt them. Keep expensive lawn mowers, cars and other toys stored securely in the garage. When it becomes dark out and you turn on your lights, make sure to close your blinds. This will help keep the things in your home private, include expensive TVs, electronics and other expensive items. Don’t tempt burglars by flaunting what you have.
Shred any important financial information before you toss in the garbage. Thieves use this information to assess whether your home is a good break-in candidate. Simple things such as invitations should also not be thrown carelessly away since it can indicate to a burglar when you won’t be at home. Remember, you have to help your home security service so that you, your home and family receive optimal protection.
